Q: apple remote desktop doesn't install

I tried to install ARD on my wife's mac and it didn't install.

I have a 10 license version of ARD (3.0) on cd.  So I installed it.  But it said that there was a newer version running.  Then it stalled and I had to forcequit.

So, then I deleted ARD and rebooted.  I downloaded the newest client (3.6.2) and installed it.  After installing it, ARD isn't found in the normal place I would expect, (in the Applications folder).

So either I can install the old version and have it stall out.  Or I can install the new version and not be able to find the app.

Anyone know what is going on here?

BTW, I have ARD working just fine on my two other macs. And, as I mentioned earlier, I have a 10 user license, so I'm sure I haven't run out of licenses.

All of my computers are using Mac os 10.8

Any thoughts?

    Try this:

    • Insert your ARD CD

    • Open in Finder

    • Right click on the Remote Desktop.mpkg and show contents

    • Navigate to contents/installers

    • Drag the RemoteDesktopAdmin.pkg file onto the workstation and install. Do not try to launch the ARD app.

    • Run Software Update

    • Upgrade to the latest version of the admin application

You may need to completely uninstall ARD and then reinstall it before this procedure will work. Follow these instructions for the uninstall:

The ARD client software lives in /System/Library/CoreServices. The ARD Admin software lives in /Applications.

If you just want control of/access to your wife's system, you're already done. You only need the Admin installed if you want to be able to control other systems from hers.
