After launching the Instagram app, select the Camera icon in the center at the bottom. Select the icon to the right of the Camera Capture button at the bottom to bring up the iPhone's Camera Roll. Select the photo you want to add to your Instagram with a crop option. Select Crop at the top right for the selected photo and next you can add the desired photo effects to the selected photo and after selecting the effects if any, select Next at the top right. From there you can share the photo with FaceBook, Twitter, Tumblr, foursquare, Flickr, or send via email.

With a photo selected in the Camera Roll, select the Share icon at the bottom left of the selected photo. The share options are Mail, Message, Photo Stream, Twitter, FaceBook, Assign to Contact, Print, Copy, Use as Wallpaper.

And you can add a photo direct from the FaceBook app and direct from the Twitter app.

It's a bit confusing. The camera icon looks more like a washing machine. It is the central square one at the bottom with the circle in it. It is usually highlighted blue when you open. Hold down on this and your pics on the phone will appear. If you tap it the Instagram camera will open allowing you to take pics within the programme.

I just was trying to figure this out as well.

When I opened Instagram it asked me if I wanted to connect to the camera role. I don't recall if I tapped the photo icon (center) or far right lower icon. Once I gave permission my camera role shows up every time I open the All Photos and click on Library. You can select a photo from your camera role and then tap next in the top right hand corner. From there you can apply a filter or not, click next again, and the Share to window opens up. You can add a caption and share to Instagram Followers or Direct to folks in your contacts.

I don't see how to crop a photo in Instagram so not sure if that function is available.
