second hand macbook pro

Hello everyone

i recently purchased a second hand macbook pro. it is all in good working order and i'm very happy with it.

it came as, advertized, with its power cable.

it's got some pre-installed softwear like garrage band, microsoft word/excell etc...

i would like to make sure it's all above board and legal, how do i do that?

is it normal that it has microsoft word etc and not numbers and pages?

the mac itself did not come with any manuals, disks or paperwork of any sort so i dont really know what i should be expecting. can anyone shead any light?

thanks

Unless the licenses for third-party (or even Apple apps) were transferred to you, it would be illegal to use such software as Microsodt Office, etc., but not the iLife apps.

The previous owner really should have wiped the drive and installed the original OS X that came with the computer. Which version of OS X did the seller provide?

If you want to get your mac back to 'factory fresh' follow the instructions given by Thomas Reed in his How to prepare your Mac for sale.

If the seller didn't turn over the machine in 'factory fresh' condition, then he or she likely violated a number of EULAs in keeping some software, including Mountain Lion 10.8.3, on the computer. Unless the computer shipped with 10.8.3, then he or she had no right to 'sell' you that version of OS X. You'll likely run into some problems updating through the App Store, as ML likely wasn't purchased with your Apple ID.

But let your conscience be your guide - your really should 'start anew' and make sure that you only install software that you have purchased. You say that there were no discs, etc., with the purchase? Which model MacBook Pro do you have (e.g., "15 late 2011")?

i had a look, i have a 15 inch, mid 2009. 8gb memory, 3,06ghz, 500gb hard drive. plenty for my needs!

from what i read on the advert it is "factory restored" and all seems ok. but seeing ms word etc in place of Apples Pages etc, i thought that was odd.

as mentioned i have installes some programs (paid of course) and transferred all my music (im a dj/musician thats what the mac is for) which took a while. if it comes to it i will do my own restore and start again but i was hoping i could find somewhere where i could perhaps type in my model/serial number and see exactly what should be on here.

since the seller did not ship it out with the cd or dvd, is there anywhere i can get hold of this devices discs?

thanks for your help

below is the list of what software and original OS that came with your Macbook Pro - best thing to do is call Apple to get the Original Install DVD - I think they charge $40 - $50 for these DVD.

the other way to go is purchase Snow Leopard from Apple - $20 and install it and update it to 10.6.8 then purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store for $20.

as for Microsoft Office - you have to purchase that online or at computer stores selling them - just make sure you buy the Mac Version.
