You cannot access the file system on an iPhone from ANY computer. The only accessible files on an iPhone or iPod Touch are images in the Camera Roll. It should be recognized as a digital camera. You need iTunes to access any other content on the phone.

sounds like you have some issues with your account in terms of rights under windows
I had to uninstall "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" in device manager.
Then, scanned for hardware changes and the Apple device driver installed again.
Now everything is fine and I can browse to my pictures on Windows explorer.
