seems this sort of problem is going on more and more with faulty iphones and ipads that we cannot get replaced if warranty is out ipad had lost is volume before christmas, took back to apple and just out of warranty, they wanted £200 for a replacement exchange thing.
is this Apples response now to say tuff? you may be lucky ones to have an iphone/ipad that works for or a while or like me who has had an ipad and iphone now that has developed a hardware fault through no fault of my own, but due to Apples faulty goods, no replacement as just after warranty is out and cannot get fixed
Ive brought Apple products for years, over 20 and always went out my way to sing apples praises and never had a bad response from apple until now. they were always keen to help sort, but sadly customer support is now going down the pan with apple.
over £1000 down the drain if I cannot get sorted
one thing what you can try, this helped in case of my spouse. backup your phone first, please create passwor when you are going to make backup from phone to the computer. (by the way if you dont use password when you make it, you need to put app paaswords every single program when you recover, IF you use password YOU HAVE to remember it, otherwise their is no way whatsoever to find or recover that password!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1)
then you can make appointment with apple store and ask them to make sowtfare checkup on your phone, then if they find something have gone on the rocks like my spouse phone, they reprogram phone to factory reset. so you are going to lose everything on your phone, so please please please please remember to make backup.
anyhow, after this Iphone 4S has worked eversince including gray wifi gone and audio problems. Voila!
Yes done the back up, but will the re program done by Apple resolve this problem?? As read that cannot be fixed? No point wasting my time if they cannot fix or won't replace. Had the same thing with my iPad just before Christmas, could not fix and basically tuff if you cannot pay £200 towards replacement.
Seems like long lasting quality products that dont break down just after the warranty is out is a thing of the past now :(
that was exactly my thoughts that it will not work. My point is that when they did run apple test on iphone they found out that information was corrupted. Ofcourse they are not telling this anywhere because they want to sell to you that phone to either 200 £ or more likely new phone. You need to demand them to do it, and it will definately cost less than 200 £.
Success !! - yesterday for some reasons I have since forgot (because I have been so ****** ) I turned off my WiFi and could never turn it back on. I can to this board and read everything - no luck. Took the phone to Apple - and yes, $200 and they could give me a new phone - so I told them F' that and left. Today I still had no WiFi and had lost songs I purchased... ***? ..... Anyways - I deleted my icould account - and when it after it deleted my WiFi turned back on!!! So not sure if it is the answer for all - but delete the icould acount and see if that works for you....
This should require a recall of all the corrupted phones. How would you demand Apple to sort it??
As we tried to with a simlar fault the ipad has now and they don't care and basically say TUFF!! either give us £200 for an old secondhand replacement one or go away. Theres a law against this surly?? purchase NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE?
Deleted everything on mine then reinstalled, wifi came on for 1 min but then went off. tried everything and nothing.
Here is a fix....
I had mine greyed out for over a week and very frustrating trying to sort it out. downgraded from os 7.2 and it worked, then stopped when upgrading again...so is it software??
heres how to fix, at the top by the mic is a chip you need to reset... to do this you will need to heat up with a hairdryer, takes a few minutes to aim a hot hairdryer at the top of your iphone until on the screen a image of a temperature gauge comes up stating 'iphone needs to cool down before you can use it'
then turn off and place in plastic bag and put in the freezer until it cools down.
turn off and on and should work.

WHAT???? You fix it by HEATING the HARDWARE, then COOLING the HARDWARE, and you say it's a SOFTWARE problem? Give me a break!
Yes, Lawrence Finch, don't you know that heat changes the bits to '0s' and cooling changes the bits to '1s'. Of course changes in temperature can rewrite software code!
I get all my Apps for free this way. I just selectively control temperatures, and I got Angry Birds for FREE!
My iPhone Wifi 'Greyed out' coincidentally on the day I purchased a laptop, was sitting around the microwave, (Where I had the laptop and iPhone charging in the same power that the microwave was plugged into) working on the laptop for an hour or so. All 3 devices within 3 feet of each other on the same power bar. After fiddling with the laptop, I pick up my iPhone and then for the first time ever my iPhone wifi conks out. Strange coincidence. Having said that, I have had my iPhone shut off automatically with still >20% battery left while FaceTime-ing in my -22 Celcius garage. Maybe the extreme cold is killing my iPhone??
BS. Look up the post hoc, ergo propter hoc fallacy. You don't fix a software problem with a hardware solution. The first time a computer tech told me that I have a problem with heat sensitive software was 40 years ago. I laughed at him then, and I still think it's really funny. If it was really a software problem there would be a software solution.
