Samsung SSD 840 freezes OSX Lion on MacbookPro Early 2008

I've upgraded my Early 2008 Macbook Pro with Samsung SSD 840 drive, but I'm struggling with system freezes when using Lion and Mountain Lion. Even such simple task like opeing/closing information sections in Finder are making my system freeze - look on the video below how the counter is behaving.

What is interesting, there was no such problem when using Leopard or Snow Leopard.

The fact that Lion and Mountain Lion is not performing well on my Macbook pro is not matter of a little bit out-dated hardware, because I was using another Macbook Pro with original HDD on Mountain Lion and every thing was orking perfectly. So I guess that there is a compatibility issue between Samsung SSD 840 and Macbook Pro Early 2008 on Lion / Mountain Lion.

Check this video to see what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLfuy_6Dwfo

Anyone knows how I can solve this issue?

It begins to look a bit better now.

OK last "work" to do:

16. You can uninstall EyeConnect: you can do all sharing with OSX.

17. You can uninstall M-Audio FireWire Helper, OSX does all that

Also then in (ssd) /Library/LaunchDaemons/ folder delete com.m-audio.firewire.helper.plist (if it is still there).

18. You must uninstall PACESupport

19. I don't know Qsupport, if you don't know either, uninstall it.

20. When you don't use Virtualbox uninstall it and also delete the VM.

21. The LogitechHarmony.plugin in (ssd) /Library/InternetPlugins/ folder, decide yourself to delete it.

22. Go to (ssd) /Library/StartupItems/ folder delete ALL entries (no harm done): when you want to continue with the Bresink Temperature Monitor, start it manually, when you still want to use Virtualbox start it manually.

Restart, and post a new Etrecheck list

So, that is that.

As a last item the Trim command after your next reply post. That is simple and straight forward.

Pfffff

Very good: kext replaced by original kext. Good, because we now don't have to manipulate the kext file ourselves.

You always have to check after each update, because the kext maybe replaced by the riginal OS kext.

TrimEnabler is rather simple programmed.

We now use one little tool that I have tested on several mbp's with 10.8.5:

download Chameleon form http://www.alessandroboschini.it

Then unzip, start Chameleon, click the lock (left botton), set to ON, click the (left) T+ icon. It will tell you that Trim is enabled. Quit the app immediately, don't play with it.

Restart the mac.

Check the Trim support in SystemInformation.

At the same time you can help the SSD by not writing the socalled sleepimage file, This requires some Terminal commands. If you want to do that say so and also post a new Etrecheck list, for me to check one last time.

Hi - done. And I would like the Terminal commands, thanks.

OK, this looks good now.

As the Trim now works (check it every day) the SSD is OK sofar. We still have to know whether it works OK two steps back to Sata1. It should be in the main HD bay, because the superdive bay is even slower, even though it says sata1....

Use it today and tommorrow and I will be back on monday, and explain everything Terminal then.

Use it in the meantime and tell me if you have issues.

The other SSD "helps" are not really difficult, but takes a little longer on my side because I want to explain why and what it does for the SSD.

It needs checks during and after the Terminal commands.

Have a good weekend...

Sep 23, 2013 8:35 AM in response to Ammentorp

Well now we know your sys is as clean as you would let it, it then is probably the fact that two Sata steps down in the SSD840 is causing this issue. A crash report would be helpful (although I hate to read them, Linc and others are he super pro there). Can you produce that?

We forget about the SSD improvements with the Terminal for the moment because they will not solve anything. Read the beginning of this thread again.
