Your year and model iMac can take 6 GBs of RAM.

My advice...install the maximum RAM for best performance.

Here are the proper RAM specs.

6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots2 - 200-pin PC2-6400 (800MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM

Purchase correct and reliable Mac RAM from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).

Here's how to Install your new RAM.

You keep stating Adobe Photoshop 10. There is no such thing. It is either Adobe Photoshop CS5 or CS6. If this is Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 you are referring to, then OS X 10.5.8 is the minimum OS X requirement.

See this link.

If you are considering running the current Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 version, here are the OS X system requirements here.

Of course there is a Photoshop version 10, it is part of CS 3

CS refers to the marketing name given to the version of the Creative Suite of applications that Photoshop is a constituent. All Photoshop applications have a technical version number such as; Photoshop version 10 which is part of CS 3.
