Has anyone installed Crucial M500 960GB SSD in a 2011 MBP?

I'm thinking of buying a Crucial M500 960GB SSD to upgrade my 17' early 2011 Macbook pro. However there is an item on the Crucial forum from someone trying to install this drive in an MBP and he claims is starts the OSX install and then hangs. I know 480GB version has been successfully installed in an MBP, but have not found anybody who has installed 960GB version.

MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

Installed mine last night, did a clean OSX install from a firewire drive partition freshly made from the 10.8.3 installer with Lion Diskmaker, left it running Migration Assistant overnight to copy my user account over from the old spinner, and it was ready to go this morning. So far no issues minus the usual fresh-OSX stuff like having to reconfigure Little Snitch, Dropbox etc etc. Getting ~405MB/s writes and ~488MB/s reads. Stoked.

I installed a Crucial m500 960GB SSD last Friday 4/12 in my mid 2012 2.7 16GB 15" antiglare MacBook Pro.

It works flawlessly and is screaming fast. Computer is totally silent, fans are rarely audible, bottom of computer is not even warm to the touch. I had sold my former not-yet-ready for primetime retina MacBook Pro and "downgraded"?

Combined with the Crucial m500 960, this is by far the best, fastest, coolest, problem-free MacBook Pro I've ever had of the 20+ I've owned over the years.

Mine's been working great. Most noticeable so far with startup time and launching Adobe's bloated CS apps. 🙂 Haven't had any video or similar heavy-needs projects yet so can't comment on that, but expecting it to feel like an all new machine as it has with other things.

Blackmagic Disk Speed Test reports ~405MB/s write and ~487MB/s read, give or take a couple MB. I forgot to run a test on my previous drive (750GB 7200rpm Seagate) but who cares. It's so much faster.

Yeah, as stupid as it is from pretty much everyone else's point of view, about half of my 960 is taken up by my music collection. External drives are a pain when it comes to managing iTunes so I'd rather not. I may take the optical out and put a second drive in to house the iTunes Library at some point; honestly I don't know what's better for battery life as I'd like to maximise that more than anything since that's dropped significantly since Snow Leopard. I did a clean install of OSX on the new SSD *and* replaced my battery all pretty much at the same time and still have lower battery life than the SL days. :/

I have installed M500 960GB in my Macbook Pro mid 2012.

Installation was very easy (pre-formatted on another mac beforehand).

After instaling tweaked with:

- enabled Trim

- disabled hdd sudden motion sensor

- disabled hibernation

- set persistent mount for / filesystem with noatime flag

- disabled Spotlight for files (kept on only for apps)

I must say I am truly impressed with the performance of my macbook pro (mid 2012, 16GB Ram, i7 2.6 GHz) now.

It actully boots up close to 1 second faster than my wifes macbook pro retina (early 2013, 500 SSD, 16GB Ram, i7 2.7 GHz)!!

I am extremely pleased with the upgrade and size of the SSD!

Well done Crucial!
