Q: how do I get a disk out of the drive on a PowerPC G5 that won't boot

I tried to reinstall OS X 10.4.9 to an old machine to clear the machine to sell

It wouldn't boot ... multi-lingual restart screen with a message that a driver might be missing

now I can't boot the machine and the disk is in the drive which I can't get open

without the disk the machine boots to the old system

how do I get the disk out ... then what do I do to clean the machine to sell it?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.11), PowerPC G5

Restart the computer with the Option key held down, click on the normal system, press Enter, and eject the DVD. If it won't start up from the normal system, restart with the Option, Command, O, and F keys held down and then issue:

    eject cd

    mac-boot

Then use the computer's original disks or a retail DVD newer than it but no newer than 10.5.8 to erase it. If desired, you can connect it to another Mac with a FireWire cable, start it up with the T key held down, and erase it from there instead.

    Niel,

thank you. Incredibly easy when you have the right combination.

    I have attached a screen shot ... screen shot.jpg

the top line reads "unable to find driver for this platform PowerMac 11.2"

this (I'm pretty sure) is the original disk that came with the machine (10.4.9)
