You have two options here. You could use a service such as dropbox or google drive. Dropbox gives you 2gb for free and google drive gives you 5gb for free. Both of them you can upgrade for a cost. Both of these you have to access via an app. The second option is to get an external hard drive. Now many brands won't work with an ipad because you have to access them with an app. The two you could get are the kingston wi drive and the seagate Goflex. The kingston is your best bet, it is cheap and has its own app for you to access files from. Be forewarned though. You won't be able to just download a movie from any of these, you have to go through itunes for that. The Seagate will let you stream movies though. Your last best bet is something called a hyperdrive. Macworld wrote an article sometime ago about it. It lets you download photos and videos onto memory cards and then hook it up to your ipad via a cable kit. A draw back is everything runs through your photo app, so to watch videos or lookat pictures they have to be ipad friendly.. So jpeg for photos and mp4 or .mov for movies. You can not use it to view files though. The links for everything are below in order. Hope this helps!

They are hard to find now, and very expensive, but if you can get a ZoomIT adapter, you can plug that into your 30 pin dock connector, and then use their software to access storage on SD cards. You can copy files from your iPad to the SD card, you can copy files from the SD card to your iPad, and you can even play some media files directly from the SD card. I have even used a 30-Pin to Lightning adapter to use my ZoomIT with my iPhone 5 just to test to see if it would recognize it, and it was able to read the SD cards...

When I bought my ZoomIT adapter about 18-24 months ago, they were about $40 on Amazon. The last time I looked for them, they were over $100 and "out of stock" most places.
