windows 7 has two start buttons

After a windows update I now have 2 Start buttons. One appears to be totally, looks and acts normal. Then the other is located in the lower left side and covers a small part of the normal one. This one is a rectangle looking thing that has the normal flag on it. Yet when you click in it it looks like an old windows style column. Please help! I have ran my virus and malware software and they have found nothing.
