I booted up from DiskWarrior 4.4 but DW can't find my hard drive. Is there something I can do to get DW to recognize my hard drive or another approach to take?
Also, how can I safely quit DW and turn my computer off. Every time I quit DW it says that it's going to restart and then it proceeds to reboot for several minutes from DW even though i am not pressing the "c" key.
Does your hard drive work at all (can you access the recovery partition). If DW can't find your drive then you can't use DW.
Not sure what you mean by recovery partition. When I boot up with DW my only choice of disks is "DiskWarriorDVD" there are no other drives to choose from. Is there something I can do to get DW to recognize my hard drive?

Leopard or Snow Leopard then, you are going to need the original installation discs (but it sounds as if your hard drive has failed)
I have duplicate install disks here from apple but they don't indicate which OS? Is there something we can try with the install discs or does DW failing to recognize the drive indicate 100% that this is hard drive failure?

Quit DW. When the computer restarts hold the mouse key down, and keep holding it down. That should eject the DW cd.
Please check the writing on the disks you have. Is there one called "Installer"?
Got the disc out. Thx. I think there is just the one disc. I don't see an installer disc per se.
Since you have an Installer disk, your OS is not 10.7 or 10.8. Assume it is 10.6.
Put that disk in, and start up the computer while holding the C key down.
If the computer boots to an installer type screen, it will ask for a language selection. Do that and continue.
The second screen will display a full Menu bar. Go to Utilities in the Menu bar, and select Disk Utilitiy. When that opens, selecct the hard drive on the left, and click on Repair disk (bottom right).
If all this works, quit DU and select Restart.
Not 100%, 99% is about it.
Try to boot from one or the other of the discs, if you can try Disk Utility.
OK, did this and got 4 "invalid node structure" notes and "the volume could not be repaired. Error filesystem verify or repair failed.
I think this may be OS 10.5 but not sure...
The drive needs to be replaced, it has failed.
Can you give me a rough idea of the cost? Where I should have it done? Can I copy files via target disc mode from one computer to another before I take it in for hard drive replacement or is this not possible because of the failed hard drive?
Less than $100 will buy a drive, and after replacing it you can connect it externally and attempt to retreive data from it (no guarantees, backups are best done before failure) Look for an Apple authorized repair shop in your area, expect to pay $200 approx for the labor involved.
