Editing iMovie Projects from IOS device

I have read some feedback on these forums that says it cannot be done but this article from Apple says it can

You can import a project created with iMovie on your iOS device—iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch—into iMovie on your Mac. Using iMovie on your computer, you can then edit the project just as you would any other project.

When I follow the steps the project is half the size / blank /only has 1 photo moved over / no sound....

How can this be done?
