My girlfriend's 4th gen. iPod touch has been giving her a warning saying that it is too hot and to wait before using it. We have noticed that it has only started doing it ever since she started plugging it into the outlet on her desk lamp. In my opinion, the battery is getting too hot while charging, but just wanted to double check with you guys. If you have any ideas, thanks in advance!

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

However, unless you are in a hot environment, I thing yo have a hardware problem. I do not think it is related to where you charge the iPod.
In my opinion, first try to restore it to factory settings. If that doesn't work, send it to the Apple store. That is a real problem with that. If it is in warranty, then they will replace it free of charge.
I had the same problem. I was using non-Apple usb ports and cords (bought cheap from an online site). When I went back to Apple ones, the problems stopped. Also, try plugging it directly into the wall outlet rather than going through a "middle man".
