My iphone 3gs will not turn on Wi-fi

I have followed the suggested troubleshooting from the website, reset the software from iTunes, the troubleshooting screenshots are exactly what I am looking at. The wifi is greyed out, and I cannot move the slider to ON.

The Telstra shop assistants couldn't solve it, and the Mac people at another shop had no luck.
