How to fix formatting issues with the epub export function?

My links, chapter titles, toc, and pages breaks aren't working. The first export had a few correct chapters, but some incorrect page breaks and no toc. The next export had no formatting, just font styles and sizes. I have tried quiting and restarting, importing the formatting, updating the instructional epub doc... these aren't working. It just seems like it has lost the correct formatting... is there a work around or fix for this?
