iMac won't start

I went to turn on my iMac today and it doesn't do anything.

I have checked the power.

Prior there was a battery icon flashing but didn't think anything of it at the time.

Suggestions?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

It's possible that a dead pram battery could make your computer not start but I've never heard of a flashing battery icon. Whe was theicon? Is it possible it was for your keyboard or mouse? Try resetting the SMC and PRAM

To reset the SMC

Shut down the computer.

Unplug the computer's power cord.

Wait fifteen seconds.

Attach the computer's power cord.

Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

Resetting NVRAM / PRAM

Shut down your Mac.

Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

Turn on the computer.

Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.

Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

Release the keys.
