Install Windows 8 on 13" late-2011 macbook pro (incompatible?)

I'm trying to install Windows 8 on my Macbook Pro 13" i7 (late-2011) using bootcamp. I've got Mountain Lion 10.8.3, which I assume means Boot Camp 5. According to this article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US), my computer should support Windows 8.

But when I run Boot Camp Assistant, during the part where it's downloading files, it pops up and says something like "This computer is only compatible with Windows 7. Do you want to continue?"

Why can't I install Windows 8? My computer should be compatible, according to everything I've read online.

Thanks,
Harrison

Dear all,

I have a problem with my macbook when install window. I try to read some discussed about install windows through bootcamp (for macbook pro late 2011), but now, i still can not install windows for my mac (macOS Sierra 10.12.1).

When i put DVD into mac and open Bootcamp assistant and wait few minute, (pls see attached file).

Noted: i begin with win7, win8.1 and win10 also.

For your discussion,

Yes, i have a physical DVD in the optical drive, i download ISO file for win7 from microsoft.com and burn it to DVD through BURN application after download.

Base on guideline for install win7, in the first step, after i opened Bootscamp Assistant, i don't see option task "Create a windows 7 or later version install disc"

Here is Terminal for diskutil list:

Your specific model does not support USB installers.

This disk format (APM) will not allow Windows to be installed. You will need to burn the ISO to a DVD again. Right-click on the ISO and choose the Burn option, and expand the Burn dialog. It should look like this. Choose the 'lowest speed' to avoid block errors. The disk should be UDFS.

Your computer is compatible with Windows 8, so you won't have any problem installing it. If Boot Camp Assistant doesn't let you download the Windows support software, download it from the Support site > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf Burn it on a USB drive, and install it after installing Windows.

If you need help, follow these steps to install Windows on the MacBook Pro > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf

I have had Windows 8 running on the 13" MacBook Pro i7 16GB (Late 2011) since December 2012 before the release of OSX 10.8.3 and it worked fine after a few missing drivers were located.

After the release of 10.8.3 and the new BootCamp 5 Drivers the MBP functions perfectly.

Don't burn the Windows Support Software to a USB but burn to a DVD unzipping them from here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638

We have internal DVD's so use it for both the Windows 8 install and the BootCamp 5 Support Software and forget the USB route.

Piece of Cake!
