This just happened to me also. Did you just install the new OSX update that came out today on your Mac? I am guessing that may be the cause.
I am getting these two error in succession every time I try to log into the iTunes store:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (0x800B010F).
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-50).
In addition, I cannot make purchases on my daughters iPod.
It looks like more people are having this problem so maybe it's not related to the update.
Not related to update...just tried to deauthorize computer and received error -50...4/16/13 10:56pm
Definitely related to the update here. I was having no problems earlier tonight until I installed iTunes 11.0.2.
I'm getting consecutive error messages as well.
First
We could not complete your iTunes Store request.
An unknown error occurred (-50)
There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later.
Then
We could not complete your iTunes Store request.
The network connection could not be established.
There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later.
and I'm using an iMac, OS X 10.8.3
this is my exact problem. I thought it was my computer.
Yeah, I was messing around with IPv6 tunneling right before I fored up iTunes... thought I screwed up my computer. Glad to hear it isn't just my computer that's not connecting.
Guess the iTunes servers are down again. Hopefully they will be up in the morning.
I just tried to sign in to my Apple account in iTunes and it worked. It seems that the servers (at least for the Northeastern USA) are up and running! Good luck. (edited at 2013-04-17 00:48 UTC-5)
A couple gentleman mentioned this as a solution in another discussion, and it seemed to work for some, so I tried it, and it worked for me as well. It's a very old post, but involves just a simple reset of your iTunes parental controls: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3288. I do recommend you try it.
Here's where I got this info: We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection could not be established.
Had the same problem. At first I thought it was my account, but my daughter had the same exact error code appear (-50). Here's what I did: I uninstalled iTunes and re-downloaded it. That didn't help. I reset the iTunes Store cache on the iTunes Preferences, Advanced setting. Then I RIGHT CLICKED on iTunes and selected Run As Administrator and Viola! Got it working again. Hope this resolves your problem as well. Good luck.
I get same error message (unknown error (-50) ) on both of my computers starting today. Tried signing out and in again to iTunes, restarted computer, etc., nothing working yet.
I sure hope so! Apple has been giving me the run around on this, telling me that there wasn't a problem with iTunes Store.....uh, apparently there is! Grrr
The problem appears to be fixed, at least, at this point, I can log in to the iTunes Store via iTunes.
Thanks for the post VerbWar. I am running on Mac with Mountain Lion. The first option of toggling the iTunes Store in preferences did not work for me, but the second option of deleting the defaults at the terminal did work.
