We are trying to upload our fourth ibook. Keep getting this error:

ERROR ITMS-9000: "File given does not match type JPEG Image because of these validation issues: ; Error=com.apple.jingle.leghorn.fileformat.ValidationError@1b983b18[userString=T his file does not start with a start of image marker.]" at Book (MZItmspBookPackage)

We have reentered multiple text entries and data files. Problem is that we don't know what this error means. And there are no answers in the support forum. Please, we like the program. Can someone help us get past this error loop?

iBookstore Publisher Support send me a fast response email which included some helpful info:

Please make sure that all image files inside the ePub end with one of the following: ".tif", ".jpg", or ".png" and that the file itself matches the file extension type. To check if the image file matches the file extension type, please right click on the image then select "Get Info". Once the info tab appears, please make sure that the file extension type of the image file matches the "Kind" found under "General".

For further information regarding embedded images, please refer to the iBookstore Asset Guide, which is available for download in the Deliver Your Content module in iTunes Connect.

And they INCLUDED THE TRANSPORTER LOG (!), the log generated by iTunes Producer as it tries to upload a book. We were able to search for the Validation Error # within the log and find out which image Producer was trying to upload when it encountered an error. Turns out the problem was a corrupted screenshot jpeg.

    Grateful!

My error is similar but apparently not due to the same issue.  It is something to do with my screenshots but I don't know what.  They are PNGs and have .png extension.  The error says

This file's signature doesn't match the PNG Signature.

I get the error five times – I presume one per screenshot.

I converted the images to .jpg and avoided the errors this time.  Not ideal but after all the hoops I have jumped through to get to this point I bit the bullet and did it!

    Have you resolved this problem?

I've not been able to resolve it and still upload .pngs.  All I could do was convert the images to .jpgs, only then would iTunes Producer accept them.

The .png  is an acceptable format for iBA, from your  comments and the error report it would seem that at some stage during the renaming or save process, the end result does not contain a valid format signature.

Are the original images .png  or some other format that  was later converted to .png?

It could be something with the application which was used to process images.

If the book is online then at least you have a result.

    My process was:

Standard Mac screenshot - which are pngs.

I then renamed them in Automator.

I then cropped / resized them in Automator.

Added .png to filename if necessary (you know how screenshots produce pngs but the extension isn't in the file name).

At no point during this process were the images converted to another file type.  The file info always recognised them as pngs.  But yeah as you say I managed to upload the package so hopefully no other issues will be raised!
