What does error 21 mean?

I am having difficulty getting my iphone to come back to life after being through the washing machine! It has dried out and is in "recovery mode" but when I try and get it restored via itunes it comes up with an error - "an unknown error occurred, error 21". Does anyone know what thjis means and how I get round it?
