My iMac doesn't launch. It goes through the whit screen with Apple logo and then onto blue screen with process wheel but no further. What can I do to resolve this problem?

I have just tried to launch it in safe mode but it just runs through the grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel and then automatically shuts down!

My best guess is a hardware failure. Here is Apple's link to trouble shooting the issue...Gray screen appears during startup

What OS ? If 10.7 or 10.8 you can use recovery mode to repair your drive.

http://www.apple.com/ca/osx/recovery/

Boot in recovery mode, then run Disk Utility. Select your drive and have DU repair disk.

Thanks. It is Mac OS version 10.4.7
