Samsung 840 pro 256gb not recognized anymore

Hi all! I have a mbp early 2011. Last November I installed a samsung 840 pro into it and moved the old hdd into an optibay, removing the superdrive. All was working good (and fast!) till two days ago.

After a resume (from suspend) the main drive (ssd) was in read-only mode, so every opened apps were crashing and finder was giving me a lot of error -50 every time i was trying to write/copy a file.

I rebooted in recovery mode and repaired the drive. All fine all good, till the next resume from suspend. Then i experienced again the same problem. This time the repair drive tip didn't work. So i restored the ssd with a time machine backup. Really bad idea i think: now the drive is not recognized by the system at all.. Already resetted pram and efi, the problem persist. I have last samsung firmware installed of course.

The strange thing is that if i connect the ssd using an external usb drive it works well and boots normally..

Do you have some ideas?

If you need more info i'm here!

Thank you!

HI,

I have a Macbook Pro early 2011 17".

I bought two SSD Samsung 840 Pro 256GB, to change the Samsung 830 256GB.

Tha problem is, when I Install one SSD ir works perfectly, but when I put the other SSD in the optibay, the mac do not recognise the SSD Samsung 840 Pro in the optibay. if I install the Samsung 830 the mac recognizes.

Usint that SSD as an external drive it works perfectly.

I want to make Raid 0.

The mac has all the updates installed.

Any HELP??? 😉

Thank You

Hi!

After my problems (sata flat broken 4 times) i had my macbook pro 13 2011 replaced by Apple with a 2012 model. I had also to buy a new optibay since the one i used with the 2011 model is not compatible anymore.

@David: 2012 models recognize the samsung 840 pro into the optibay, early 2011 models don't (maybe mid 2011 do). This is my experience.. Probably this is related to sata3 "problems" on early 2011 models.

Bye

Hi!

What can I do? Contact Apple? I have yet warranty until 17-08-2013.

Can Apple solve this situation? because for this moment it's not possible to use the SSD in the optibay, because in the place of the HDD I have one Samsung 840 Pro 256GB working.

For the moment I do not have any troubles with the macbook 17", just the problem with the SSD.

Thank You

David

Since you took Apple's parts out and put your own parts in, Apple isn't going to cover any resolution under AppleCare. They might have a solution but I doubt it'd be a free one.
