Just ordered 2 albums and some pictures came out much darker than expected and much darker than on screen. Do I need to calibrate my screen before starting an album?

I just recieved 2 printed albums. Some pictures came out much darker than on my computer screen. Do I need to calibrate my screen next time? And how to do so?

The pdf looked good on i.photo. My friend just had same issues. Strangely, best prints are the lowest quality pictures.

Is there a guideline somewhere stating

1. How to calibrate colours

2. Best picture weight for best printing results

3. How to "pre-view" the book before printing (other than on i.photo)

I find this new experience with printing with Mac is not very satisfying in terms of final printing.

Preparation of books is very easy though.
