iPod no longer syncs with iTunes either by USB or Wi-Fi

My iPod Touch2 is recognised by Windows7 PC when connected by USB and only shows in iTunes under STORE under items purchased. But there is no icon to allow sync to take place. Wifi no longer works even when iPod is charging and iTunes is running on PC. iTunes and iPod software shows as up to date. iPod has been hot and cold restarted. Nothing suggested in FAQ's is working. Please help.

VMT for your advice. All the above carried out apart from unable to test on another pc. Device connectivity test failed both my ipad and ipod as unconnected although both are recognised as devices by Windows7. Also restarted all startup services using msconfig. I have been unable to sync ipod or ipad since itunes revamped. Can I go back to previous itunes version please?

This does't work either. After going back to old job iTunes 10.7 I was warned that my itunes library is no longer accessible because it has been modified by a later version of iTunes! I don't have a historic local backup of the library so it looks like this is a dead end. I will try allowing an update of iTunes. Meanwhile I have been uable to manage my music since 18 March for ipad and21 March for ipod. Is there anything else I should try?

PS I realise that the syncing icon has moved from a side panel to a top panel in iOS 11.

I've had to reinstal iOS 11 because iOS 10 won't start in the first place unless it can verify the library! A backup will present identical conditions is therefore unlikely to help. Running the diagnostics again two of the Port tests passed but the final one failed because iOS11 can't see the devices. Windows can. All start up services are passed by the test. So I am right back where I started! Both devices can connect wirelessly to the internet. I have iCloud disabled on ipod and ipad because otherwise I get conflicts with contacts and calendars in Windows devices corrupted by duplicate entries. What now? The only common denominator in all this is iOS 11.

Tried to restore PC to an earlier restore point but unable to go back to before the problem started in mid March. Unless I have missed something, the results of testing all point back to a glitch in the current version of iTunes. It's own tests show a port problem affecting my 2 devices but all my other usb devices such as satnav and windows7 itself are working normally. I am surly not the only one with this impasse. Is there a way to report the fault directly to the Apple developers to try to get a fix?

You are right. I managed to borrow a laptop and both iPod and iPad can be seen in itunes. My own pc fails the iTunes port test. I have checked USB controllers in Device Manager and there are 11 versions of Apple Device Manager present. At least one of them is up to date. Should I uninstall all these and reinstall, and if so, how should I go about it?

Finally I have succeeded but the steps involved are complex. It involved a registry amendment to show hidden files in the Device Manager which revealed 11 Apple Device Drivers listed under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. All Apple Drivers uninstalled and deleted. Also uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled. The new Apple Device Driver did not appear at first but following the appropriate steps indicated for this fault eventually traced the correct version of the Driver in the system files on my C Drive from where it could be reinstalled, again following the technical advice. Another PC restart brought it all together and finally the sync icon appeared as usual in the left hand panel. Many thanks for your help and patience. I could not have succeeded without you!
