any suggestions out there....I can copy and paste all attributes but FCP will not bring up the "Attributes" menu to allow me to select various filters to copy

What exactly are you doing? Is paste attributes grayed out in the menus?
No it is not greyed out...I follow the steps but the actual paste attributes "pop up menu" never comes up. Just trying to copy some Audio effects from one clip to another.

Use Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion.
Were you able to resolve the issue? I have the same one and it drives me crazy.
I did. Trashed the preferences, duplicated project without rendering files - nothing works. And I have dozens clips to adjust manually. Please help!

Color, noise effect and some audio ajustments
I've been experimenting with combinations of color correction, noise effects and audio and can't reproduce the problem in my 10.0.8. Has this ever worked for you on any version?
Try deleting all render files (from the FCP menu commands) and then copying the sequence to a new project.

It worked in the previous version and it worked in the 10.0.8. It stopped suddenly. I have duplicated the project without rendering files - same result. Will try your suggestion and let you know if it works. By the way I am from Boston too. Do you belong to BOSCPUG by any chance?

Yup.
I'm having trouble with this issue too--tried trashing prefs, repairing permissions, the whole 9 yards. AND the 10.0.9 update doesn't fix it either - at least it hasn't for me.
Please post screen shots and describe exactly what you're doing. I works for every machine I've ever taught on.

Screen shots really WON'T help here as when you invoke the COPY>PASTE ATTRIBUTES command, via keyboard OR menu, doesn't bring up the Paste Attributes window.
I'm on an iMac 27" with 12GB of RAM, running Lion (10.7.5).
I CAN give you a typical example of what happens though…I tweak audio settings on a specific clip (e.g. volume, pan, set noise reduction, etc.) . THEN I select the clip I've tweaked, and choose COPY, then select a subsequent clip to which I want to apply the SAME audio settings and choose PASTE ATTRIBUTES.
SOMETIMES the window comes up, SOMETIMES it doesn't. SOMETIMES it will come up 2-3 times and then suddenly it WON'T come up anymore. VERY frustrating.
I CAN use PASTE EFFECTS, which accomplishes the same thing, BUT obviously if I've applied a VIDEO effect to Clip 1 that I DON'T want applied to Clip2 - this method won't work, and stuck tweedledumming and tweedledeeing with audio settings again.
This bug REALLY wrecks the fluid, creative workflow inherent in FCPX! Apple - PLEASE FIX!
