imessage issues on iphone 5

I have been facing issues sending imessages to my friends who are on iphone5, iphone 4s, iphone 4 or anyone who has a iOS6.

I don't have text messaging enabled on my phone so I can't receive any text messages and I disabled text messages on my phone since all my frnds are on iphone users. This imessage issue has now become huge. Not only me most of my friends are facing the same issue.

Is Apple doing anything about it? Or they are just wanting us to pay extra to the carrier provider for the text messages that are being sent out because of the bug in iMessage!!!!

Same problem here... sent my wife a message 3-4 hours ago. She just called wondering why I've been so quiet. She never got it. Checking between my MBP and my iPhone one says delivered, but the other doesn't (usually they both say it). The wife hasn't rec'd any of them. Have tried rebooting all devices. Even signed out of iMessage, rebooted, signed back in. Nothing is working. Has been a problem all day as far as I can tell.

That doesn't mean its not down and they simply aren't aware yet. There were Game Center issues this morning and two iMessage outages last week. Remember, Apple also said the antennas on the iPhone 4 were fine and all 10 million of us were just holding it wrong. If you google "april 18 2013 imessage" there are way too many hits for there to not be a problem. Hopefully Apple will get it resolved.

When both my wife's and my phone and others all stop working at the same time... you don't need troubleshooting links... you need Apple to fix it on the backend. Troubleshooting links are for when you're the only person having issues and everyone else's works just fine. Glad your's is working. Its possible its localized to the east coast or to the N. Carolina area where I am. Would be interested in knowing the location of the original poster.

I'm in NC and using AT&T... I see you're in CA... saw a comment in a Verizon blog saying he was in San Diego on Verizon and having iMessage issues today. His being on Verizon would seem to rule out a carrier issue. Hard to know for sure, but I doubt events from Boston from days ago would affect things now. I think there's an issue and Apple isn't updating their status page to acknowledge it yet.

Well... good to know its not just me. I managed to escape one of the two outages last week. Guess I'm not so lucky today. 😢 it is frustrating though... Apple really needs to be on the ball on this. We're sending messages but are unaware that they're not going through. And they don't go through later when its fixed... they seem to be lost forever. At least BB sends the past messages after an outage. Only option is to turn off iMessage and default to SMS/MMS, but if we don't know its fixed later or forget, then we end up leaving iMessage off. Its actually a big PITA. Worse for people with non-3G/LTE iPads or iPod Touches that can only do iMessage. I really like Apple, but they're continued outages are getting to be a major pain.

I too haven't been sending iMessages today on Verizon Wireless in NYC. Most of my texts are going through green. It's really irritating when this phone sends an SMS/MMS it's as if it doesn't even attempt to go back to iMessage for sometimes days. Even if logging in/out of iMessage and rebooting.

Also, as always, turning off "Send as SMS" does absolutely nothing to fix the problem.

I think its working again for me... here's what worked.

Logged out of both Facetime and iMessage on my Macbook Pro. Shut down.

On iPhone, removed old email addresses in Facetime and iMessage related to @me.com address. Also removed my @icloud.com address as no one contacts me through it anyway. In iMessage, turned off send as SMS option... actually unchecked all options. Signed out from both Facetime and iMessage on iPhone and rebooted.

Logged back into to Facetime first on iPhone; confirmed only phone number and 2 correct emails were listed.

Logged back into iMessage and waited for activation process to occur; then confirmed it correctly showed phone number and correct email addresses. Then turned on other options (send as SMS; group messaging, read receipts, etc).

Sent a few tests to other iMessage users that were not having issues. All came through correctly as iMessage (not txt) and correctly showed as read or delivered based on recipient choosing to show read receipts or not.

Back on MBP added iMessage account (and verified newer, shorter list of email addresses); waited for it to activate; did the same for Facetime.

With that... all appears to be working for me. Will do the same process on the wife's iPhone and MBP later tonight and update this thread if it works or not...
