Apple Mobile Device Support?

I'm been trying to connect my 32GB iPod Touch 3G to iTunes for the past few days and every time I do, iTunes says "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes." However, I did that the first time this message popped up and it still asks me to reinstall iTunes. I don't want to do that again because I just don't have the time. I've scoured the internet and everything I read seems to point to the Apple Mobile Device Support not working properly. I've also read that reinstalling iTunes should have fixed it, but it still pops up. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I had problems installing iTunes and the solution that worked for me was to use winrar (or other extracting program) to extract the files from itunes setup.exe. Once extracted you can go into that folder and individually install which software component you need. I spent a couple hours on the phone with tech support with no success until we tried the above. Now everything works great. This should solve your problem.
