iPad iBooks randomly shows black boxes on PDF pages, quarter/half of page

I don't think there is anything you can do to fix iBooks, but it's possible some modification of Acrobat settings might satisfy it. The best place to ask about that would be the Adobe forums.

I really wish someone at apple cared about their products. iBooks is possibly one of the worst apps ever. I have a new iPad Air (2014), and I get those black boxes every so often. I guess I'll just restart the iPad again, that seems to help with this issue. So annoying indeed.

You might just want to use another app for pdfs. There are tons of them and most all are better than iBooks, which is really designed to read epubs.

Your solution is to not use the program. That isn't helpful at all, you must work for apple.

If using iBooks is more important to you than reading your pdf's, then I don't think there is any way to help you.

I have this problem with my PDFs too. I'm using a lot of PDFs from the German RPG "The Dark Eye" (Das schwarze Auge) from their the PDF shop "ulisses ebooks".

However, i recognized that I don't get this random black boxes after a restart of the iPad Air for a long time. But when it starts it's become very frequently.

To remove the black boxes for a single page i can close the book and reopen it or just mark text from the corrupted page. Zoom in removes the black boxes too, but if you zoom out there are visible again.

I also recognzied that this must be a problem if the iPads PDF engine and not from iBooks. I got the same random black boxes in a PDF which I viewd in Safari.

I think that changing the reader will only help if it has its own PDF Engine. Don't know if this possible in iOS.

Perhaps it's some kind of memory leak of the iOS PDF Engine, after this bug apperas only after some time of ussage.

Adobe Reader certainly has its own pdf engine.

I've had some success with closing the iBooks app, waiting for a few seconds, then reopening it; sometimes this works and sometimes not. However, I've had the same problem when reading books in my Kindle. In those cases I often just turn the page and then go back to the previous page. If that doesn't work, I turn the Kindle off for awhile. I guess my point is that this problem isn't isolated to iBooks.

I want to use iBooks, because of the wlan sync via itunes and the bookmark sync via the cloud.

I hope apple will fix this bug (a response if this bug is know by apple would be great).

Apple reads such reports but doesn't respond to them.

not sure if you already solved your problem but this works for me. touch a random word for a while for selection, then all black boxes disappear.

hope works for you, too.

This is a problem being described for iOS, not Adobe. My iPad has the same issue in safari, and it has no Adobe app.
