How do i add a new label (folder) in gmail

I'm trying to add a new folder in gmail from my iPad. I believe that gmail refers to folders as Labels, but I can't find a way to accomplish this on my iPad. I know I can use my Mac to do this, but I would like to do this from iPad and/or my iPhone since I don't take my Mac with me when I'm away.

Thank You,

MKM

Open the Gmail (use the account selection in the lower part of the side menu if you have more than one account. If only the gamila acount , open it). you should see a button labeled Edit at the top. tap that. Then tap New Mailbox (bottom of the screen). That is ther gmail terminology for what we might call a folder. Type the name of the folder, then select the location within the rest of the folders (you can place it with other existing folders). Tap Done.

It may take a few minutes for it to sync over to the gmail servers, but you should be able to use it on ther iPad pretty much immediately

Gmail is a little different on the iPad than some other email providers having the archived folder (I think) but of any email account is IMAP, you should be able to add folders.

If you go to your email account in the Mail app and look at the window where your inbox, trash folder and sent folder are - if there is an Edit button at the top of the window - tap that and then tap Add Mailbox at the bottom.

If the Edit button is not there - you cannot create folders on the iPad. Your email account is not IMAP. Only IMAP email accounts can create folders on the iPad. Any folders that you would already have in an IMAP account would sync to the device already.

There are other gmail users that I'm sure will chime in.
