Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter not working on ipad 2 and iphone 4s

I have had an ipad first-gen with 5.0.1 and bought the Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter.It was working flawlessly all the time.Not that i sold the ipad,someone was interesting in buying the AV Adapter.I sold it to him and he tested it on his ipad 2 with 5.0.1 and his iphone 4s and was not working?!?!??!! Its the official adapter that i have bought 2 years from now with Model Number A1388.As stated here http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD098ZM/A/apple-digital-av-adapter , it says it is compatible with these devices.So whats wrong i ask...I paid it for 44 eyros and Apple has released a product that is defective and not supported by its devices...Shame for such a company.........
