Q: Why did final cut x lose some fonts?  how do I retreive and reinstall fonts from Final Cut X 10.0.7?  that that isn't possible can I reinstall the previous version of final cut x?

Why did Final Cut X 10.0.8 lose fonts?  How do I get these fonts back (namely Chapparal Pro and Trajan Pro)?  If that is not possible, can someone tell me how to reinstall 10.0.7?  Thank you for your help.

FCP X only reads specific types of fonts.  What font type are those?

It may be that somehow the fonts became corrupted or disabled.

FCP X does not "lose" fonts. Are these fonts installed in your mac? Can you use them in other applications?

You can open Font Book and see if these fonts are there and are enabled. If they are disabled, you should be able to reenable them.

I have tried Trajan Pro and Chaparral Pro in my mac in FCP X 10.0.8 without issue.

I think they are Adobe fonts, but they were on my computer when I had 10.0.7 and they disappeared from Final Cut and my font book when I updated to 10.0.8.

I found a work around: I exported Trajan Pro and Chapparal Pro from a different computer, installed them into the font book of the computer that was just updated FCX to 10.0.8 and now they are installed and working in FCX.... but the mystery isn't solved.... why did they disappear when I updated to 10.0.8??  Has anyone else noticed this happening?  Thanks for your replies.

Mystery, indeed. I can't see how installing an update would wind up deleting two fonts.

I have those two fonts in two macs, both running 10.0.8.

Even though this unexplained disappearance may have happened around the time you updated, that alone does not prove this was related to the update.

Do you have Time Machine running? You could investigate this by traveling back in the Font folder up the time they reappear. That would give a more accurate notion of when the two files disappeared.

Great suggestion, but I don't have the Time Machine running to help solve that issue.  If I hadn't had a backup of those fonts on another computer, where would you have recommended that I go to get them? Is there a free Apple font bank online?  Thanks again.

I have these fonts, and did not install them specifically, so I had thought they must have come standard with OS X.

However, I did find an online list of the fonts that came with Lion: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5098?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US; and likewise for Mountain Lion: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5379

These two fonts are NOT in the list. Googling further seems to show that these fonts are from Adobe, so they may have been installed together with some Adobe software.

Thanks for your research...very interesting.  I think that you have helped me solve my issue!  I had moved the FCX file from another computer to the new one (with 10.0.8 update) that did not have any Adobe software on it, hence, the likely reason why it wasn't in the font book.  I was thinking it was a FCX issue, but it was not.  Larry Jordan also was keen to this. Thanks, Luis, Larry and Ben!
