Sound check does not work

Songs still vary greatly in volume level. how do you fix this?


is there other software i can use to level the audio before adding the songs back into iTunes?

iPod touch (4th generation), Windows 7, iTunes 11.0

Over many years of iTunes releases, Sound Check has never worked adequately.

It seems to me, as if volume adjustment as changed in iTunes 11:


Apparently, the adjustment value (that is stored in the track) is ignored, if the following track comes from the same album. Since iTunes computes the values individually for each track, this avoids unwanted "jumps" of the loudness in gapless albums.


On the other hand, this is counter-productive, if you have a playlist with e.g. two tracks form album A, followded by two tracks from album B.


In case the above understanding is correct, not even the use of iVolume will guarantee an even loudness with iTunes 11, which would be very sad.


For the time being, I have downgraded to iTunes 9.1.1, which is kind of tricky on OSX 10.8 and prevents me from connecting to the Store and to the shared iTunes library on my 2nd Mac. Also, you should not do that if yo use iTunes to sync your iPhone!
