iCloud ID already taken

I got a replacement i-Pad for a faulty one but now iCloud won't work with notes and mail; I can't save to iCloud. What do I need to do?


When I switch it on under Settings, it responds that "the id is already taken", (I believe by me, but it doesn't allow me to proceed).

iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi + Cellular, iOS 6.1.3, iCloud not working
