Hi.

Late answer. Sorry, i've just saw your post today.

EMC 2180 is a macpro model 3,1 EFI64.

It can be

  • a 2.8 Ghz 8 core
  • a 3 Ghz 8 core
  • a 3.2 Ghz 8 core
  • a 2.8 Ghz 4 core

So it can accept all the current OSX version. Don't know obout the latest one (Maverick).

Can you tell me some details about your hardware system ? I'm on the way to upgrade my Macpr 2,1 to a macpro 3,1, replacing the necessary parts and i need part number references.

Can you tell me :

  • the part number of your logic board (written on the upper right side of the board) ?
  • The part number of your PSU unit (written in the upper side of the PSU) ?
  • What processor frequency and type (can be seen on "about my mac" panel?

regards,

Eric

This chart says your Mac Pro 3,1 will boot custom 10.5.1, "Full retail" 10.5.2 and any "Full retail" 10.6 from DVDs.

If you clone from another drive that contains a "Purchased" 10.7 or 10.8 that would work as well, but a cloned copy will be tagged with the same Apple_ID as the original image.

"Shipped in the box" or "pre-Installed" versions will only run on the specific model they shipped with, even if the are Updated with Software Update.

Eric_QC-Canada-

Thank you for your completely unnecessary snub.

As a courtesy to readers, I included the entire table, with the headers. The line I am reading is the next-to-last one, which is for what YOU decoded: a Mac Pro 3,1 (early 2008):

#Mac Pro

Date introduced

Original Mac OS X included

Later Mac OS X included

I find deleting the additional data as above RUDE, which is why I did not do it this way to begin with. But for you, this is the chart you should read.

The chart says for this model, 10.5.1 (possibly custom) was shipped initially. Retail 10.5.2 and later would boot this machine. That is what said above.

it seemed we are saying the same thing with different word.
