I was trying to enable it on my VmWare Esxi virtual machine's on a Mac Mini (last gen).

I have checked standar configurations: dns is ok, public ip is static, permissions are ok, local firewall disabled, network firewalls permits traffic.

Today, I decide to try without a vm enviroment and I have installed Server.app on a native Mac mini but the problem is the same.. I have tried it on an other network too... nothing to do!

Anyone had/have my problem?

Thank you

I have the exact same problem.

I am also running my Caching server as a VM, on a VMware vSphere setup, running on 3 Mac Pro's.

I have not tried on a physical Mac yet.

I had an other problem on native and inizializing now is fixed and working

Conclusion

  • on vm doesnt work
  • on native mac mini works

...no way, Apple supports reports that's a virtualization problem related on bridged network intefaces.

For now the only way you can try is to use a usb ethernet adapter and connect it directly as a vm pheripheral. I dont know if it can work but is the last chance.

If you'll find someway to fix caching, please, report it.

thank you guys

I came across this thread while searching for that issue, and thought I would post the solution as of ESXi 5.5

You can add

SMBIOS.use12CharSerialNumber = "TRUE"

to the bottom the vmx file for the virtual machine.

This only works in ESXi 5.5.

In VCenter web client (Who uses that right?) there is an option for 10.9 in the New Virtual Machine Wizard.

The 12 Character Serial...while doesn't look like an Apple sn...does allow Caching Server to work.
