Memory Card is Not Supported

Hi All,.

I bought a SanDisk Standard SDHC Card 32GB to use in my MacBook Air. As pictured below:

When inserted it says that the S.M.A.R.T. Status is: Not Supported.

Then I thought it might work if I try to partition the card and format it because it also said - Partition Map Scheme: Not Formatted

So, I have tried to do that but the process is 'stuck'. I have taken a picture of it to show you exactly what it says. It is stuck on 'Waiting for disks to reappear'.

Any advice? I would appreciate it so much. Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for replying! Much appreciated.

I just want the computer to read the memory card so that I can save music files on it.

When I insert the card the computer says:

so then I click on 'Initialize' which takes me to Disk Utility.

This is where I am trying to format the memory card to try and get it to read on my computer.

Can I reformat it so that my computer can read it?

I hope this makes sense and that you can help me.

Thanks!

Ok.....Once you click on Initialize - format/erase it to Mac OS Journaled Extended.

Once that's done - then you can format/erase it to dos format.

See if that works for you. One more thing - have a look at the side of your SD Card - there is a small slider that goes up and down - if yours is in the lock position - then you can not format it. Move it up to unlock - move it down to lock

you better stop it....it should only take 10 mins or less to format/erase a SD Card - I have a 32GB and 64GB SD Card and have never had any issues with them when i use it or when I format/erase it.

your SD Card is a good brand too - I have a cheap $19 32GB SD Card.

suggestion - try formatting it using a windows pc/notebook or another Macbook - doing this rules out an issue with your SD Card slot.

if the SD Card doesn't format/erase on another PC or Macbook - then SD Card is defective. If however, it erases, then we have to figure out why it won't do it in your Macbook.

quick question - what version OS are you running? Snow Leopard? Lion? Mountain Lion?

have a look at the youtube link below and see if this sorts it out for you.

in any event - it's night time here in Canada - time to hit the sack - have a good weekend.
