When I add to library, it doesn't copy to my external hard drive

I've moved my iTunes libary (500GB) to an external hard drive and have my preferences pointing to it... works fine. But when I add new files to the iTunes library, it copies them to my MacBook Music folder, not to the external hard drive. What did I do wrong?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.5)
