Hi I have gone to my download button and found the file I have down loaded and it says its in applications but when I go to applications its not there, I would like to know please where I can find everything I have downloaded on the hard drive, so I can delete what I don't want.

Where did you download this from? From a web browser? From the Mac App Store? You might also want to check in the Downloads folder (assuming it was a download from a browser). If not, go to Finder > Preferences > Sidebar, and under "DEVICES," check the box for hard disks. Then, go back to a Finder window, and select your hard drive from the sidebar. Then type in the filename, and search the hard drive.
