Charger/adapter under warranty?

so when i plugged in my charger today, i noticed that my macbook wasn't charging. i looked at the power adapter and noticed that there was some tearing going on on the cord. the area around the tear looks kind of brown so i don't know if it was due to some shorting out or something like that. WHATEVER. the point is, i have only had it for not even a year and now there's a problem. Will apple replace my adapter? (cause eighty bucks for a new one is money i don't have and i have important files for school on that computer...), (and also is there some kind of a one year warranty that's institued upon purchase? just need clarification...)

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012), iOS 6.1.3

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities

If you bought the charger less than one year ago or it came with your computer (and you bought it less than one year ago), take the charger to an Apple Store and you will get a new charger free of charge

Accessories share the warranty of the product. However, if Apple determines that the cord was torn due to misuse, they might not replace it. No one here will know what the result of Apple's evaluation would be, so you'd just have to go in and ask.

Only if the problem is determined to be a defect in workmanship. Otherwise, it's considered negligent use and is not covered. You will need to take to your local Apple retailer.

Call AppleCare if you don't have a local Apple retailer, they can assist with replacing it as well. 1-800-275-2273
