Hi, I have an iMac (mid 2007). When I tried to install Mountain lion I had a message like<it's impossible to install Mountain lion on this hard drive>.
It's not the original HD, I replace the original by a bigger one (more gb and more buffer) Hitachi. I was able to install Mountain lion on a clone (external HD) but not on m'y internalisation HD. Do you know why?

You need to double check the specs, you iMac is on the line. Take a look at this link, http://support.apple.com/kb/SP654
How is the drive partitioned?
You also might want to check the model number to ensure it really is a mid 2007. Holding down the option/alt key, under the menu select System Information.
