My Ipod nano (5th generation) is not showing up on my computer nor my itunes. How do I fix this?

So, I have my ipod nano (5th generation) that is not showing up on my computer nor my itunes account. I had a similar experience recently with my ipod classic, however I somehow fixed that without me knowing how. I recently updated my computer to Windows 8 and they would work before that. So, I am trying to put them in my itunes devices since they are not registered on there for some reason.

I have already tried resetting the ipod, putting the ipod in disk mode, restarting my computer, and uninstalling and reinstalling itunes. Nothing has worked so far. The ipod wont even show up in my devices section of my computer even when I search for it whether in normal mode or disk mode. If anyone could help me out, that would be great!
