I haven't got a Canon but the procedure is often very similar across the various printer brands. This is what works for me on a Brother:

On the printer's control panel press the Menu button and then navigate your way to the 'Network' option and then select WLAN. There is normally then a Setup Wizard option (or similar), choose that and the printer should see your network. Select it and the encryption method the router uses for wifi and then input your wifi password using the keys on the printer (normally the up & down/left & right arrows. OK it when you've added the password and hopefully after a few moments it will be connected to the network.

One thing to be aware of - if your router has MAC Address Filtering enabled you won't be able to join the network until you open it up to connections. There is normally a button on the router that opens the network for 5/10 minutes to allow connections. Have a look at any manual you have for the router.

Also, there is another, easier way of connecting if the printer and the router allow WPS connections. You'll need to login to the router's wifi settings which should have blank box for inputting an 8-digit code. On the printer go through procedure described above up to and including WLAN. At the next screen, if WPS is an option select it and the printer should after a few moments display an 8-digit code. Input that into the WPS Pairing box on the router's wifi configuration page, save it and hopefully you're done.

If your iMac is connected to your router by either WiFi or an Ethernet cable that is all you need.

Just forget the word WiFi. That is only used to connect a Device to a Wireless router or access point (which is what is in a wireless router). Once all devices are connected to the router, by wireless signal or Ehternet cable, they are all Networked on the Same LAN (Local Area Network).

The term WiFi only applies to how any device connect to the router. Not how one device connect to another. They must all go through a central point, that being a router of some type.

Hello Stapler, I know how you feel I got frustrated with very same issue months and left it in the too hard basket. worked it out today with the help of your posts.

Make sure printer is turned ON first and WiFi is lit up on front face.

GOTO print fax button in System preferences.

in print screen you will see a printer list on Left hand side of printers you already use including status of each.

AT The BOTTOM LEFT of this square you will see a + - button

Press the + button

This will open another window labled ADD Printer, with Default, fax, IP and Windows across the top.

In the Default page you will see another list of printer choice options, ( printers available to you )

press - select - the canon MG 5250 series_46698D000000 (your numbers may be different) and you will also see under the Kind heading on Right hand side it will say "canonijnetwork" ( This is what gave it away to me )

Then press ADD

Then go to document and press print, Command P

and in Printer selection, press up down arrow and your new priner should be in there.

selct it and Press Print, then Wollah, your document should be printing and it should show up in the print queue.

So the secret is that you will actually have TWO MG5250 printers in your printer option list. A ISB version and a WiFi version with long number beside it.

I hope this helps.

Keep up the good work everyone who contributes GREAT Answers to this Forum, I have learnt lots from it. Thanks Team MAC.

Cheers from Jason

Can anyone tell me how to add screen shots into these comment screens please, is it easy??
