Static shock from Sony TV HDMI

Hello all,

Whenever i touch my mac mini i get a electrical static shock. It is actually quite painful and annoying as i get shocked whenever i connect my iphone to my mini via the cable. I finally identified the culprit, the static electricity is coming from my sony bavria TV HDMI connection. So i called the Sony technician and he came to check the TV. He said it is normal for HDMI cable to carry static charge and there is nothing he can do.

Just want to check is this normal ??? because it is getting really annoying. My external hard drive i connected to my mini had crashed yesterday and i cannot help but suspect this electrical charge had damaged it.

Does anyone out there has experience dealing with this issue? HELP....... my mini is only a few months old and i really dont think its normal that it's electrically charged like this......

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

If you are absolutely sure that it is only a built-up static charge. Then it would be safe to connect an earth ground strap to either the TV or Mac Mini to drain off the static charge.

If you are really not sure if the built-up charge is static or some other electrical problem. Then do not take any chances, unplug everything and call a Certified Electrician to sort out the problem.
