8 x 1gb or 2 x 4gb rams in an early 2008 pro?

I'm looking at increasing my ram in my early 2008 mac pro from 4gb to 8. Aside from cost (and I assume temperature) is there a performance difference between 8 x 1GB or 2 x 4GB?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

There is. Using ALL DIMM slots improves memory bandwidth performance by 17%.

Using cheaper but equally fine 667MHz instead might reduce synthetic testing by 4%.

So 2x2GB from Amazon $32 means $64 for 4x2GB.
