what if that is NOT the issue, and i still can't connect?

Sometimes I can't connect and there is an exclamation point over the AirPort icon when i know the password HAS been entered correctly - because I'll have connection for a few days, then no connection for a day or so and the ex point shows up, then I will go back to having connection.

I've been told it's possible that my MAC address has been "sniffed" and someone else is using it, preventing me from doing so and connecting. could this be the case?
