AVI to VOB format

Does anyone know of any FREE (free forever) software that will convert an AVI formatted file to VOB format? I occasionally download a missed TV show through VUZE, but it comes as an AVI file. (By the way, anyone know a better program than Vuze for this purpose?) After the download, I need to convert it to a VOB file to burn it on DVD to be able to watch it on a TV with a DVD player attached. (I don't want to watch it on the computer or have to deal with attaching the computer to the TV, and only one small TV I have will even allow the computer to be attached, anyway.

I've had some success using ImTOO DVD Creator (but not so much lately), and Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate. When searching for these online, both said FREE, but they aren't free - only a trial period is free, and until you send money, the converted file carries a watermark. Frankly, I'm not really impressed enough with either one of these to buy it! So, I'm seeking other ideas. Also, am i overlooking something in my process? I've tried just burning an AVI file on a DVD, but my DVD player doesn't seem to like it.

By the way, I'm still on Snow Leopard.

Read the user manual that came with your external dvd player. It will tell you which file types are favorable. I have an older dvd player (20+ yrs) which does not like home burned dvds. But it plays commercial dvds beautifully. Come to find out, dvd-r discs are not compatible with it.

Try "Handbreak" to convert videos to all formats for FREE. IMO it is the best free video converter and they don't bug you for money constantly. It is free forever.
