I wouldn't use TM as if you do that the new Mac might not boot. The older Mac might not have the correct drivers for the new system and TM will replace most if not all system files when doing the restore.

Why not just setup the same users accounts on the new system, using the same user names and passwords, then just copy over the user files from each account to the new system.

Network the system across your LAN (Home Network). This is something you should already have set up with othe devices in your home. If not it is about time you started as it is the easiest way to copy/move/share files from one device to another.

All devices in your home now connect to and share an internet connection from your router or modem/router combo box. It is a simple process to get them all seeing and talking to one another.

Yes, that is already set up. One of my main concerns is itunes and the syncing of my iphone/ipad as im using new hardware when i log in. i thought if i migrated or used a bback up it may have kept the 'ID' in place........more than likely not! the last thing i want is for my phone to be wiped again due to syncing with new hardware!

From your OLD computer...

Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

An Added Bonus is that you will have a Backup of iTunes.

To move iPhoto to your New Computer the principle is the same...

Copy your iPhoto FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

NOTE:

It is important that the External Hard Drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled)
