I had my iPhone 5 headphones plugged into my laptop and when i took the headphones out of the port, the jack broke off and part of the jack stayed in my laptop. I took the laptop in for servicing and they removed the part of the jack that was stuck, but my port is now not operable.

It's turned out to be both actually. I just spoke with an Apple representative. Apple has covered themselves quite well on this one; I was told that the iPhone 5 headphones are made to ONLY be used in this device, and so if the headphones broke plugged into another product, Apple or otherwise, it is considered "accidental damage" and will not be covered under warranty. Who doesn't use their headphones in multiple products?
