App Not In Applications folder, but App Store says it's installed.

Anybody have any ideas on this?

One of my apps is missing from my Applications folder, so I went into the app store to try to re-download it, however the application store says the App in question is installed...

There is a 'free' version of the same app in the app store, so I decided to try downloading it, which works, but again the full version of the App is still missing...

I have 2 suggestions:

  1. In the very top right of your screen is a magnifying glass. Click on it and search the app's name (i.e. "JPEGmini"). This will do a Spotlight search of your entire system and my help you locate the "lost" app.
  2. If that doesn't work, I would delete the "Lite/Free" version, reboot your mac, and try again. There might be some confusion between the full version and free version going on.

Good luck!

Neither of these ideas apply...

Prior to exausting everything I could think of, the free version was not installed, and in fact had never been 'purchased' (it did not show up in my purchases list, and the button on it read 'free' instead of 'install')...

The first thing I did was a spotlight search for JPEGmini, with no results comming up.

I then went into the App Store which is when I found that it was reported as installed.

I proceeded to use the Terminal app to try and determine if a hidden flag had been set on the app in the Applciatons folder (rendering it present but invisible), but was able to confirm there was no applicable hidden item...

It was then that I 'bought' and downloade the free version, just to see if it would work. It worked as expected, and even upon deleting the app the 'INSTALLED' indicator in the App Store went back to an 'INSTALL' button...

I've since removed the free version but am still unable to install the full version...

I have managed to fix the issue myself...

I still don't know why the App disappeared, or why it continued to show as installed...

I ended up doing a search for all preference/config/plist files related to Mac App Store and delted them... Upon rebooting and re-running the App Store, I found it properly offered me the ability to do an install...

I don't know which file it specifically was tha corrected the issue, but everything seems to work as expected now...
